A couple of interesting pics

Post by butlersrangers »

While looking at pictures on ebay today, I noticed details in a couple of photos. The pictures are undated and unidentified as to person(s), place or unit. They probably raise more questions than answers. However they are interesting to look at.

#1. Studio photo of Sergeant with Krag. He is wearing a web ammo belt that has to be for 1903 Springfield. Can anyone identify period this web gear came into use?

#2 & #3. Intriguing photo of unit with Model 1892 Krags. (I'd be smiling too)!

Yes, lots of questions, including the fact that the closeup seems to possibly show the infamous brass-tipped rod, which was supposedly never actually issued. All three show a distinct color change in just the right spot.

In the other, being a studio shot, the rifle may simply be a prop. 1903s would have been in short supply, and if the sergeant didn't bring his own, it would probably be unlikely for the photographer to just have one standing around?
