The trigger pull is just like any other early 1900s battle rifle. I checked the pull and it comes in at a skosh over six pounds. It seems to break clean but what do I know? I'm just an amateur.

I was using a canvas M1 sling on the rifle. I thought I had the keeper locked down tight enough during the slow prone but found it had slipped loose and was not providing much help. I would pull it in for the rest of the relay using fiction with my gloved support hand and did fairly well. During the rapid prone I know I did not have it adjusted correctly and I was fighting the gun. It showed. Of course the slow standing the sling is not used.

The answer lies in getting off the bench and getting on the ground. And I am still on that lot of suspect PPU ammo. I will be doing the ammo rebuild slog for the next couple of days.

My 'smith put on a rectangular ring instead of fabricating a true-to-type circle ring. So if any of you guys would be kind enough to take a gander at your Berthiers and get me a couple of measurements I'd be much obliged.

In my opinion, the regularity of the groupings with these French weapons is not guaranteed for at least two reasons:
-The aiming is primitive
-The relatively thin barrel is exposed and heats up quickly, which causes a mirage.
Their design dates back to the end of the 19th century, and at the time, shooting theory was completely different; saturation took precedence over accuracy.
I confess that I also enjoy my relics in the 8X51R caliber.

Well. Where to start. Lost all of my momentum with a family member losing a kidney to cancer. Memo to you guys. If you find yourself pissing blood, get to the Doctors like right now. "nough said.

I had fifteen cartridges set up with Sierra 175 gr. .323 flat base Pro Hunter bullets just before the crisis. Varget was the powder du jure and the charges were 45, 46 and 47 grains.

I still need to file the front sight down for the POA at 200 yards but a beautiful, sunny day will work for me.

I have a match on Staurday so it was out to the range with the Berthier. First four shots annoyed me to tears. I cannot be shooting that well. Then number five set me straight. I said to myself "and there it is". I got back on track with #6 and then I pulled my shots on #7 and 8. Number 9 was hot round that ruptured the case at the web. I started to pull my head out with #10. I only had ten cartridges so I called it a day.

All this was from a rest and a bag. I fully expect my score to really head south at the match.

Just for grins and giggles I opened up GRT and put together a couple of loads using forty and forty-one grains of N140. Probably not going to use these loads any time soon. Nine shots of 40 grains and ten shots of 41 grains with one off the paper.
