I let him know that the serial number he has given for his school rifle is incorrect. He said it is 855266 which is probably 355266, made around November 1901 and would be a valid serial number for a Model 1901 carbine. Deep "3"s and "8"s are often confused. If you get it, make sure the paperwork reflects the correct SN. Looks like a winner! Keep us informed when it arrives and I'm keeping fingers crossed that you'll love it!
