Bogus new members?

Post by butlersrangers »

With all due respect to Fiona, Isla, and Chassidy, I can not help but notice that many "new members" of the KCA Forum appear to have fake names. There is a logic, history, pattern and rhythm to names. Many of the 'newest member' names are odd spellings, female, and without posted questions or comments. Does anyone have an insight as to why these new member registrations occur? Could it be that Krags are "Chick Magnets"? Or, are there wanton Jezebels out there, lusting for our 'Cartouches'?Image

Reminds me of the one about the young man from Kent.

Actually, my question was a serious one and not intended to bring up ribald images about people from Nantucket or Kent. Why are there hundreds of apparently fake member registrations on the KCA Forum? (Odd names, not screen names, and no posts).Image

Well, let's consider what advantages are there for a person who registers? Access to images? Other things? It's possible all these bogus names represent inroads for organizations to take advantage of what's on this site. But for what ultimate purpose, who knows?

I'm just getting over the flu so I'm feeling grumpy and paranoid. :P

Well, I'M real, too real sometimes for my own good. My nom de plume derives from the locality my one-room schoolhouse was located in NE California. Now even the schoolhouse is gone. I hope to hang on for another 20 years, however.

Oh, THAT Pentz! Also as in Durham-Pentz Road?

We may be almost neighbors - the wife is from Chico, and has relatives in Chico and Paradise.

'pentz': Many of us have screen names or email names that are peculiar, but meaningful to us. When we register on the forum, we participate. You have, so we know 'pentz' exists. However, there are hundreds of registered members with suspicious names, who have no posts. It just makes me ponder and wonder.Image

One for Mr. Hosmer:

"A daring young Sergeant with Krag, enlisted to follow the Flag.
He was disappointed and somewhat disjointed,
when lovely maids with charms and wits,
winked and asked to see his Privates".
