My Grandfather Krag found 20 years after he died

I just found my grandfather Krag rifle while remodeling my house (his house previous) hidden behind a trap door in a closet.
Got it clean and ready. I guess he had hidden because it was never register with the police. We have to do thathere in Puerto Rico and I guess he wanted to keep. This month the government sign a 30 day amnesty to allow register lawfully owned firearms, so just in time to get it register with the police and able to fire it after all this years.
Here is the picture built in 1901 serial # in the low 300,000.
It has a few things like the front sight is missing the blade and the rear sight is has a broken elevation ladder and the upper band is missing a sling swivel.

Nono: Welcome to the KCA forum. What a great 'time capsule' your Grandfather left hidden for you! Take some more pictures of your Krag, showing damaged parts or area of missing parts. Maybe some KCA members can help out with replacement parts for missing or broken parts. (One hint for assembly, in case you don't know: Slide your hand-guard into position on your barrel, from the muzzle end toward the action. Never snap the hand-guard springs over the barrel. It will stress and crack the wood).

Should have a 100% functioning rifle in a few days.

In addition to what Butlersrangers said, it is also a good idea (if you can find some American coins), to place a nickel and a penny in the hand guard clips to hold them at the proper tension while off the barrel. This could also prevent stress to the hand guard until it's reinstalled.

The handguards most prone to breaking from the tension of the clips were the 92s. The crimped clips had a lot of tension on them. But the later ones sometimes crack when removed too, so it is a good tip.
