Source for 30-40 cartridges
Source for 30-40 cartridges
I just came across a company that has been in business 28 years that makes 30-40 cartridges. I just bought 100. The email is Wisconsin Cartridge Corp. <wcc@solarus.net>. Give them a look see. If anyone has any info on them i'd appreciate it. Like don't pull the trigger.....

I've been able to order PCI .30-40 Krag 180 gr ammo from the AmmoBank. Pricey (39.95 for 20 rounds), but it shoots well.

Re: Source for 30-40 cartridges
that's good to know, thanks! I've gotten ammo from kraghaus (http://www.kraghaus.com/product-p/ammo1001.htm) at about $145/100, but they are still working on establishing a consistent supply. $2.00 a pop is a little spendier than I'm up for at the moment, but it's good to know it's there (at least for another 4 boxes...). thanks!
Re: Source for 30-40 cartridges
I had a buddy of mine look for 30-40 Krag ammo when he was on vacation and stopping at Cabelas. He found and picked up the last box at Cabelas in Prairie du Chien, Wi and found none at the Cabelas in Minnesota. When I went back home to visit my folks in Livingston, WI we stopped at a little gun shop in town. They carried Krag ammo from Wisconsin Ammunition, but were fresh out. My Dad suggested a place 10 miles away between Cobb and Highland WI. They had two boxes of Krag ammo for $33.90, but I only bought one box thinking it pricey. Maybe I should rethink that. I've only had my Krag for a month and have found ammo out in the boonies of southwest WI. When I have enough brass I will be reloading. But, when I get back home I just might get that last box before y'all get it. Looks like it had been on the shelf a while.
Re: Source for 30-40 cartridges
I think I drove past the building that guy in Friendship has a couple of years ago. I was thinking he is more of a "loader" than anything - buys brass, primers, powder, bullets and makes rounds. There is a guy up in Medford who gets a bit more exotic.
Hitting out of the way places does seem to work ok - I wiped Dorn Hardware in Madison out of Japanese cartridges and, when he went to reorder, I think he found out why. That was probably kind of lame of me.
If your father is the auctioning type have him go to the local estate auctions as they're a good source for older cartridges. Off the top of my head Dairyland in Kendall, Gavin in Baraboo, Kramer in Prairie du Chien, and Auction Specialists in Mineral Point tend to have gun auctions with old ammo. You do have to be careful about reloads but unfired/unopened boxes hit the blocks frequently. Prices tend to be a buck a round or less. I pretty much get all my .32 Remington that way. I also buy Krag that way so he'll be bidding against me. Just have him attend the workday auctions as I can't go to those.
Cheers.

Hi try this url www.wisconsincartridge.com it worked for me. I paid 150 for 100 rounds. they take credit cards too. I started reloading mine but this is a way to get more brass and have fun too. I figure it costs me about .53 per round when i reload. and i have fun trying different loads out. I'm trying to stick with the old 220 round nose.

Wisconsin Cartridge -- just received 100 cartridges (165gr) for ~115.00 incl shipping. Haven't had a chance to test them yet, but the price is right and they look good. Thanks again, Bob!

Cabela's Online sells them for $30 for a box of 20.
