Grandpa's rifle

Post by usmedalman »

My father receintly passed away and I received two guns from his estate that used to belong to my grandfather. One is a Krag 1898 that appears to be in great shape. 90% blueing on the barrel, beautiful stock, receiver with about 70% blueing. The serial number is 415160. The stock is also stamped behind the trigger guard with the number 14 and a letter D below that. There was also a bayonet (no scabbard). The bayonet is different from the other craigs I have seen on line. The grip looks like the 1905 Springfield and is sort of plastic-like. The blade is 16-inches long with no fuller and a 4-inch false edge on the top. In addition, the whole bayonet has a black finish, even the tang under the grip. Any help with IDing the rifle further and the bayonet would be appreciated.
