WWI Documentary

Post by Andylit »

Folks, I went to see the new Peter Jackson movie yesterday.

They Shall Not Grow Old has a limited release but hopefully will be back for wider distribution.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7905466/?ref_=nm_flmg_prd_4

An hour and a half of previously unseen WWI film footage, restored and colorized, narrated by WWI vets (archival audio) and dubbed in spots with accurate dialog.

Absolutely stunning. You MUST see this movie, preferably in the theater on large screen. The quality is stunning, the footage is amazing and the voices of those men describing their time in training and the trenches is haunting.

There are quite a few moments where you will start and catch a breath,

Thanks for the heads up. I'm in a small market area so I'll have to wait until it premiers on a network. The trailer shows some good upgraded footage and I believe you that it is a great film. The only WWI vet I knew personally was my barber in the 60's. We discussed many things except war. I stopped going to him once I became a teenager and grew my hair out like the Beatles. ;D
WWI vets, too, were from a great generation.

Ditto on the heads up. In case I don't see it elsewhere, I've added it to my Netflix 'save' queue ..... they don't have it yet, but when (if) they get it I'll see it.
