What I have figured out so far

Post by johnbelder »

My Krag, #322633, was manufactured in 1901 and has a 1901 rear sight. The barrel is 24 inches long, nice and shiny inside after cleaning. Figure it was sporterized in the 1920's from a rifle. I found where the cartouche was, but has been sanded down. I can tell the outline of the cartouche, but little else. The butt has a crack extending from where the rear swivel was to the recoil pad. Hole where the swivel was has been filled with a dowel and may be what caused the butt to crack. Yeah, I know, beware of the butt crack! I can find no serial # on the bolt, did the Krags have them? Plan to take it to a gunsmith to have the head space and the bolt checked. Then I really want to shoot it
