New Krag- problems-need help?

Just got my first Krag. I cleaned the barrel and chamber and went to the range. 1st shot jamed in chamber. Got the bolt open but case stuck in chamber. Tapped it out with a cleaning rod. Noticed about 1/2 inch back from rim of case scratch marks all around. Looking in the chamber with a light, it looks like a rough or pitted chamber all the way around in a circle about 1/4 inch wide. Should I try to polish the chamber or forget about shooting it? I know they polish out burrs in Mosin's. Also you can hand cycle and it works OK except, the last round won't feed. :(
