Krag Carbine Sights?

I sold my 1896 (not Model 1896) carbine recnetly that I have had for over 20 years after I recently discovered on this web site that the rear sight was a rifle sight and not a carbine site. I became aware that many of the carbines for sale or recently sold also had replaced sights. My question is.........where did all the carbine sights go? I know they bring premium prices these days as people try to correct the carbines in their collections but does anyone know how so many disappeared? Just curious.
