I just acquired a mod, 1898 rifle, ser # 243592. The 1899 stock cartouche is perfect, with a # 89 subinspector mark behind the trigger in front of the also perfect "P".
While is has some rust at the muzzle, it still has lots of cosmoline and will take a while to clean up. The stock has what appears to be rack numbers faintly visible on the right side at the butt that dont detract from the overall appearance of the stock. The rear site appears appropriate for a 98 model and the barel has some minor pitting on the surface but nothing real bad.

Can someone give me any history on this and a estimated value on this arm? I'd appreciate any information. Art
