Serial Number

Post by scottymac »

I am in the temporary possession of my father's rifle. It belonged to his father before him and will be mine some day. I am interested in finding out if anyone can tell me something from it's serial number. It is a Model 1898 with the #435083. There is a cartouche behind the trigger guard but I can't read it. On the underside of the trap door there are the numbers 99 with the number 6 under them. Any information you may have would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you.

Sorry, a search on the Springfield Research Service website (http://www.armscollectors.com/srs.htm) didn't turn up anything. You can check it for yourself.

Thanks for looking; and thanks for the web site info. I shot the rifle tonight and it was awesome!
