Serial Number Help

Post by DDKLR »

Hi
I have a 1892 Krag serial #7623. Can you give me any information about it? Also, can you give me approximate value? It is in very good condition. Stock has 17 notches carved into it. Also has bayonet marked 1898.

Does it have a cleaning rod under the barrel? Most of the 1892s were converted to 1896 specifications and have had the cleaning rod channel filled. There are several other changes that were made including the shape of the butt plate and major mechanical changes to the bolt but the cleaning rod is the easiest one to spot. If it has been updated the rifle will be worth somewhat less than an 1896 in similar condition. If not, it will be a chunk of change. Sorry about the stock damage, that tends to hurt value. If it has been sporterized that hurts alot.
