1892 cleaning rod thread pitch

Post by Mark_Daiute »

what is the thread pitch on the 1892 cleaning rod?

Either the threads on the block at the receiver are buggered or the block does not take the same threads as the 3-piece cleaning rod.

Thanks in advance.

Either that or they could be just packed full of crud - happens all the time with trapdoors. When you think how many 92s went without rods for so long, it's possible. I think your answer might be in Brophy's book, as well.

As Dick says, check Brophy. Page 212. Drawings for both the first and second types of rods. I didn't see the third type (3 piece) with a quick search, but perhaps you can measure the threads with enough accuracy to compare with the one piece rods. The measurements for the two single piece rod threads are quite different.

Here are some notes I had made years ago, FWIW.

I'd trust the Ordnance Rules measurements before Poyer's. I haven't checked the TPI on my original Ram Rod. Hope it helps. Crud, as mentioned above, or damaged threads, can be the sticky widget!

(The Heading should be "1892 Ram Rod" to be more correct. I was more ignorant when I wrote this.)Image
