SRS Rifle
SRS Rifle
So, this arrived in the mail today! I am very excited to have another SRS serial number lettered Krag in my collection. I am extra excited that this one was sent to the 25th INF "Buffalo Soldiers" Bicycle Corps in October of 1897. It would be just after their famous 1900 mile bicycle trek from Fort Missoula, Montana to St. Louis, Missouri, but before they shipped out to Cuba!! I would say that this one surely saw some action. It is in 92/96 configuration now. I have sent to Wayne at SRS for a letter on it. I am really hoping he can find a lot about her. :-)
Re: SRS Rifle
I think this is one that I was watching. If so, I had a low bid on it. Glad it found an honorable home. Great Krag rifle with history to appreciate!
I love that stock.
Do KCA members still get letters from Wayne at a discount? I would like to get a couple.

Neato!!! Some unique history there.
Re: SRS Rifle
Whig,
This one wasn't an auction, I bought it outright.
Yes, I think Wayne will still give discounts to KCA members.

Re: SRS Rifle
That is awesome Tom!
IMHO - These "25th Infantry rifles" should command the same interest and money as a 'Rough Rider carbine'. A truly neat historic event!
Get yourself a Spaulding Bike to go with the rifle.

Re: SRS Rifle
Sorry for the error, Tom. Must have Krag rust in my brain!
I had a bunch of low bids on Krags recently and the stock on yours looked like one I had bid on.
Thanks for the info on Wayne and SRS letters.

Re: SRS Rifle
I love a weapon with a tangible documented military history that you can hold and say its really been there. A rifle or pistol with a provenance can truly connect us to its history more so than a generic weapon can. Great find. 1900 miles on a bike carrying gear and a Krag rifle! Wow, thats a tough outfit. No interstates in 1897.

Superb rifle with a superb history!!!
