Unfamilar mark

Post by Littleshelby »

I have a 1898 krag and was wondering if someone could tell me what the U on the barrel ring stands for.

The "U" on the barrel band stands for "Upper".

'Littleshelby' - Welcome to the KCA Forum.

If your question is about the "U" that appears on the rear barrel-band, it is a 'guide mark' to insure proper installation of the band.

The "U" should be on the right-side of the Arm and the open-end of the "U" points toward the muzzle. This was used on many U.S. Service Arms.

(Oddly, Remington made (military type) Arms often had a "U" on the left-side of the barrel-band, with the open end pointed toward the muzzle).Image
