1889 Experimental Magazine Rifle
While researching development of the Krag, I ran across a paragraph in the 1889 Chief of Ordnance report that referred to Springfield Armory preparing both a Trapdoor .30 cal rifle and a .30 cal magazine rifle. I was familiar with the various Experimental Trapdoor .30s but was not aware that SA worked on an in house magazine rifle design prior to the Krag. There were no drawings in the Ordnance report and I found no mention of such a rifle in any of the later Ordnance reports. Has anyone run across other descriptions of this rifle? I also checked SA museum's online photo database and found nothing associated with this rifle.
