I don't know if your rear-sight slide lock-screw can be straightened, without breaking it. It would probably be a good idea to shop for a replacement, before trying to repair it.
You have a nice model 1899 carbine to enjoy as a shooter. Regretably, people use to like to thin down Krag forarms for 'Hunting'. Be patient and maybe some day you will run into an opportunity to improve your 'wood'.
Your 1899 carbine was built in 1901, so the stock was switched at some point. A 1901 cartouche would be expected. An undated one would be a good replacement.

1896 Krag Rifle. Cartouche about worn away. Overall good condition, nice bore.
