This 'cartouche' was on a Model 1899 U.S. Krag Carbine, I saw on 'gunbroker' today. (The carbine looked correct except that it had a model 1901 Rifle rear-sight).

I have seen many but Never one that has two(2) stamps. looks like somebody is up to no good. Please if others know more chime in.

It may be unusual, but I doubt VERY much if it is nefarious, at all. I'm sure that at one time it meant something to somebody.
People certainly do add fake stamps to sanded stocks, but there would be no point in damaging a perfectly good cartouche.

I wish we had a 'Rosetta Stone' for some of the odd markings that appear on Krag stocks. As Dick points out, "at one time, it meant something to somebody". I suspect a lot of the odd markings date from 1903 to 1918 and indicated inspection after repair or refurbishment.
