Norwegian Krag Help
Hi, I recently purchased this at an auction. I know it is missing the rear sight, the front handguard, the rear sling swivel, the front band, and has a hand made peep sight added. It is how I got it. Any help with locating parts, identifying model, etc. would be much appreciated. Pictures included. And, is Prvi Partizan FMJ ammo ok to shoot in this? Thanks in advance.

What year is on your Norwegian Krag's receiver?
The year and serial number will help identify the model.
A lot of Norwegian parts show up on Ebay and GunBroker.

It is from 1916. Sorry, I thought I uploaded one with the year, must have forgot.

'Pgray57' - Your pictures were so large, the action area was off my screen.
Norwegian Krag, #11712, built in 1916, was assembled as a model 1912 carbine.
Your Krag does not have the regular trigger-guard associated with this model, with a web support with a large cross-hole in front of the guard. (This provided a second attachment point for the 'sling-hook'.
As originally built, all numbered parts should have matching numbers.
Prvi ammo should be fine if your Krag is in good condition.

My stock looks as if it hasn't been trimmed down in the front. Is it possible that they switched out an American cavalry stock at some point? Also, how difficult would it be to restore to original condition (parts-wise)? Would it be worth it, since I only paid $250 at auction for it?

Also, everything matches the action, but the bolt, but the two numbered areas on the bolt do match each other.

Your stock is a cut-down Norwegian military stock. Someone did a nice job 'converting' it into a handier rifle for hunting.
Restoration is tricky because Norwegian parts are hard to find and expensive. It is easy to put $1,000 into a rifle worth $700.
Norwegian barrels often have bores in poor condition. The barrel is hard to replace with its left-hand thread.
A 'restoration' would be a Mix-Master of non-matching parts and not desirable to collectors.
I would advise enjoying your Krag as it is.

Ok, thanks for the advice, it's still a neat rifle. I'm glad I got this instead of a U.S. one because it seems the 6.5 is cheaper and easier to find than .30-40.
