Norwegian Krag

Hi all.

I've used a 96 Swede for decades but have always liked the slick Krag.

Was able to buy one off of a retiring gunsmith & have 5 months to set it up for elk season.

I don't want a side-mount scope, so a receiver sight will do for my old eyes.
I plan on epoxying the sight on & threading the mounting holes to act as "pullers" if my kids wish to restore the rifle.

Does anyone know if the Williams 5D series for the 30-40 will fit the Norse krag?

I never cared much for 'Williams Gun Sight Co.' products or all the butchering of Military Rifles they encouraged.

I am not sure of what products they make now.

FWIW - Here are some products they offered in the 1960s and 70s to contribute to the delinquency of a Norwegian Krag.

Williams is still in business in Davison, Michigan.

It is your rifle, do what you want but there are more new shooter collectors today trying very hard to return these collectible military rifles that were sporterized back to original condition.

I would encourage you not to drill it or glue it. One modification on Krags I have seen is to find a replacement side plate and fashion an offset scope mount on that. You can always remove it and put the original back.

But drilled is drilled. Here is an example of what can be done with Williams mounts and sights. I bought this rifle with a large parts lot to get the other goodies the man was selling. So I kept it. But I would not modify an original in this day and age when there are so many other options for sporting rifles.

It's not that I'm too lazy to do my own research (scanned every page of the Krag sub-forum), but currently am doing wolf depredation control, with spotty cell coverage.

Have got my daughter trying to get that eBay Krag sight, but there's a problem shipping to canada. It's our dammm socialist govt...
anyone want to grab that N. Krag sight, I'll double the usd to you.

Cat Man, why are you averse to having a sight epoxied to a Krag?

I would think that it would be the least invasive means available.
I'm not sure if the chemical reaction will alter the tint of the blueing.

'6.5swede' - I'm glad the Williams (Norwegian Krag) Sight got to you safe and sound.

Has your Norwegian Krag had its stock and barrel 'cut-down' to make it a 'sporting' rifle?

If is no longer 'as issued', I would not feel guilty having it 'drilled and tapped' for proper mounting of the Williams sight.

As you know, Hunting puts a lot of bumps and stress on equipment. Sights should be mounted solidly.

(p.s. I didn't know what to make of the WW2 items pictured on the back of your note. There's got to be a good story there! Is the medallion Italian? The picture was fuzzy).
