I have recently become the proud owner of a very original M1912/18 Krag, and I'm really looking to get a proper year bayonet for it. I've been sort of joking with myself about the possibility of finding a bayonet with the serial number matching my rifle, which led me to the question: were bayonets serial matched to specific rifles? And what is the proper bayonet for my model?
Any and all information would be greatly appreciated!

Hi BrianB,
Welcome to the forum!
Pictures of your 1912/18 sure would be nice if your up to it.
Here's some websites that might be of interest:
http://worldbayonets.com/Bayonet_Identification_Guide/Norway/norway_2.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krag%E2%80%93J%C3%B8rgensen
None of my references mention anything about matching the bayonet to the rifle, however, The World of Bayonets displays a bayonet with a serial number corresponding to a M1894 rifle made in 1917... your guess is as good as mine?

Thank you thank you! I will take some pictures tonight!
Re: Bayonet help please
Here's some pictures I just took. All parts are number matching, serial number 18462, EXCEPT for the rear sight, which is composed of two different, non numbers matching parts.(.415 and .689 if you're curious.)

A very nice looking Norwegian model 1912 Karabin.
(BTW - The three digit numbers on your rear-sight parts are the last three digits of non-matching serial numbers).
It is likely your carbine was issued originally with a matching numbered model 1916 Norwegian bayonet. Overall length was 19.17 inches and blade was 14.45 inches.
