With Uncle Bob's unusual arrangement on the magazine, moving the trigger guard was probably the best solution. On the one I inherited from my uncle, it took me months of work with a Dremel tool and Prussan bluing to get the receiver to rotate till it was almost lined up with the trigger guard. If you had tried to do that, it may have messed up the spring alignment for the magazine. Now you have a working Krag with a unique magazine. What is not to like about that?
With some expirementing with bullet weights and loads you may find something that is accurate as well as loading and feeding reliably.

That scope rail looks like a Kraghaus Short Rail. I have the Kraghaus Long Rail and an LER scope on my cutoff sporter that I use as a bench rest cast boolit match rig. Looks like you're well on your way to a really fun hunting rig there. Nice work!
