One for the grand-daughter

Post by butlersrangers »

I bought this Ithaca model 37, 20 gauge, years ago for a good price. It had a left-hand safety, buggered screws, and 'troubled' wood.

I replaced screws and safety with parts from current Ithaca company (Upper Sandusky, Ohio).

A couple of years ago, I got a NOS checked Forearm off ebay.

Yesterday, an ebay purchased, NOS 'Youth' Butt arrived and I put it on last night. (The 'new' wood parts are a nice match).

God willing, I will give it to my Grand-Daughter in about seven years, when she turns 12, and teach her to shoot it.

(BTW - My 'grampa' had a 20 gauge model 37). Image

In my humble opinion... the Ithaca Model 37 is about as good as it gets for classic shotguns! I have my grandfather's Model 37 Featherlight (1949 manufacture) in near mint condition. I've used it to hunt pheasant, geese, deer, etc... although I no longer hunt.

VERY NICE job Chuck...it looks swell!!!

I'm sure your grand daughter would love the shotgun and especially the time shared learning to hunt with grandpa!

BTW: I've always desired an Ithaca Model 37 trench shotgun. ImageImage

I have an early 37, always liked the downward ejection, mine uses screw in chokes. Those chokes were made by Briley, for Ithaca.
