Good movie. But did you see the Krag in the film?

Well Maybe not a full Krag. Krag sights. That is the real reason Sgt York, um, Gary Cooper won the Medal of Honor. A Krag sight saved the squad that day. Because everyone knows that all of the dead soldiers were using inferior M1905 sights on rifles.

Ahhhhhh. The delirium is sublime. ::) :DImageImageImage

In the movie, he used a 1903 Springfield, many think York actually used a model 1917.

In some scenes, they gave Gary Cooper a stock 1903.

I suspect some of the prop guns came from Bannerman's.ImageImageImageImage

Alvin York was most likely issued a 1903 in training... however, if I'm not mistaken, he did use a 1917 in his heroic action. Some further research may be warranted here...

Awesome movie though!

This was beat to death over on Jouster years ago. They were not issued M1903s.

Excerpt from History of Three Hundred and Twenty-Eighth Regiment of Infantry, page 9.

... Clothing and equipment was being received and issued daily and soon the
percentage of straw hats and tennis shoes at dress parades was on the decline. Saw
mills of the camp were rapidly turning out the "new model" Camp Gordon rifle and
soon each man was busily occupied in mastering the intricacies of the manual of
arms with this bed slat variety of fire arm. Work continued with this makeshift
equipment till about the first of February, 1918. Then we were fully equipped with
the United States Model 1917 Rifle and Bayonet. ...

And for you who are curious of Krags in the AEF.

Here's a site with some great information concern Sgt Alvin York.

BTW: In the movie Sgt York is seen with a German Luger. He actually used a 1911 but the film makers couldn't get the .45 to cycle with blank ammo.
