BTW - Krag, #173672, is not listed in SRS Data. Another 'Documented Krag' found by "The Great Knute".

This Krag, #173672, would be worthy of listing on the KCA Spread-Sheet of Known Krags,
(along with, the 60 Krags that "Knute1" found inventoried, in the "Alaska Seal Islands - Congressional Report", on the Pribiloff Islands).

These Krags were used by Alaskan Natives to guard the Fur Seal Rookeries from Japanese, Canadian, and American Poachers:

Krags on St. Paul Island (Pribilof's) on 11/11/1918 - Natives and government officers are celebrating The Armistice, a 1.65" Hotchkiss Mountain Gun is in recoil.

Natives training, circa 1912, with two Gatling Guns and three breech-loading Hotchkiss Mountain Guns. (It appears some type of ML cannon barrel is laying in the foreground - old signal gun?).

That is what I was thinking (putting on the KCA list), BR. Have you seen the silly search words I used to find this. Krag, rifle and beef. I'm thinking the zanier my word searches are the more I can sniff out the last tidbits of info like this.

I'll have to admit that it has been addicting to shining a light on long forgotten history. So here is another "captured" Krag in the Philippines, #167844.

Unfortunately, this is how the Filipino Insurgents obtained Krags.

An odd coincidence?

I checked the SRS Data in Mallory's "K.R.S.", 2nd edition, for Krag serial number - 167844. (There was no listing).

The closest number listed was - 167841, (a model 1898 rifle, issued to Co. B, 28th USV Infantry - Lost 10/24/1900).

I 'google searched' the 28th USV Infantry, without success.

However, on page 139, of the book accessible in Knute's first link, (Annual Reports of the War Department - 1902), there is mention of the rescue on July 15, 1901, of two white soldiers at Calupan, Island of Mindoro.

One rescued soldier was - Private John Blake, Co. B, 28th Infantry, USV.

The pursuit, action, and rescue was conducted by a force of 40 men from the 21st Inf. from Batangas.
