It does not appear a 1903-A3 Springfield hand-guard will work, either. I believe the upper section is too short.

IIRC - 'Parashooter' wrote in the past about making a hand-guard out of an Ash sledge or ax handle.
Of course this would require lots of wood removal.

All military wood seems to be in demand and getting pricey.

I used a m1a walnut handguard on my T20 garand build and have ordered another for my buds faux constabulary. My guard is too proud and sits too high so I’ll remove the rivets and take some wood off the left side to lower it. I’m using a mauser clip to clamp it on my bbl [only need one as the front end locks into the bbl band]. The Krag will need two clips. On his I’ll have to remove wood from the right side as thats where the cutout for the op rod is. I experimented with a garand handguard and other than being too short looked like it might work. I messed up on my T20 build and should have shortened the stock/bbl so I could have used a garand handguard, would have simplified the build a bit.
