i have the same split as that one has, but its crack is only 2-2 1/2" long. its next on the bucket list.

'Jefe' - It sounds like you have a good repair plan. Fortunately, there is no stress in that area and your repair should last forever.
How is that rear sling-swivel anchored?

It's in there with a wood screw, same as the front, shouldn't be to hard to fill. I'm leaving them for now while I track down proper sling hardware.
I've got an order of brass and dies showing up tomorrow, so I'm going to load up some dummy rounds and function test it, then load up some rounds to shoot. Hopefully I'll get to shoot it next weekend, as I'm busy this one.

'Jefe' - Unless you are going to use a sling as a 'carry strap' for hunting, there is no need for a sling.
The regular U.S. Krag carbines had no provision for a sling.
If you inlet a regular Krag rifle 'butt-swivel' into your carbine stock, you will seriously harm its value.
For target shooting purposes, just the front swivel is needed. A regular Krag rifle barrel-band & swivel will fit on your carbine stock without alteration.
IMHO - If you need a rear-swivel, just stay with the 'commercial' one you have or utilize a screw-in 'quick-detachable' stud & swivel. (The wood damage is already done and pretty easily repaired).
