Interesting Stock

This U.S. model 1896 Krag rifle stock has some interesting 'extra' markings; I haven't seen before.
"G.A.T." - Georgia Tech?
Pretty decent looking stock.

Have you ever seen the cartouche rotated like that? Mistruck at the Armory, do you think, or counterfeit?

The 'rotated cartouche' exists and is legit. They are rare and usually dated 1897, (I believe).
It was likely done on purpose. (I don't know why)?
I think it appears on some carbines, as well as, rifles.
BTW - Some of the U.S. model 1892 Krags (made in 1894) have the Samuel W. Porter [SWP] cartouche on the right-side of the stock, behind the bolt-handle.
