I think maybe Professor Marvel was a drug pusher and maybe involved in Human Trafficking.
Uncle Henry and Aunt Emily were older & a bit naive. They didn't have the best parenting or problem-solving skills.
How are you going to keep a 'runaway' girl back on the farm, after she's seen OZ (and has issues of separation)?
Poor Kid .... she was at risk and never stood a chance!
