SAW Campaign Hat

For the past few years, I've wanted a nice reproduction 1898 period Campaign Hat.
The vendors, who once handled such things, seem to be 'out of stock' and looking for a new supplier.
I have not wanted to pay big bucks and mess-up a nice Stetson or Fedora.
Many possible hat 'candidates' seem too heavy & stiff or the color is not quite right.
Viewing photos of original period hats, the color seems to vary from mushroom, to caramel or light-brown.
Last week, I broke down and purchased a woman's Fedora (online) from Lulu's for $32.
The brim is about 1/2 inch too wide, the ribbon is a bit dainty, and the brim has an edging, but, the weight and color aren't bad.
There is a nice discrete draw-string to adjust the sweatband for good fit.
Today, I removed the "Lulu" tag and some stiches that held the ribbon ends to the brim. I steam-ironed the crown to soften 'starched creases' and make the hat more malleable to period styles. (I prefer the Fedora like crease, but, on a rainy day I may go Montana Peak)!
Good enough for range sessions with a Krag, until something better comes along!
