I stumbled on this photo of a U.S. Military exhibit at Seattle, Washington, in 1909.
I imagine there were some nice transitional uniforms and early 1903 Springfield rifles in this display.
Before "mass media" the War Department did "PR" displays at big public events, like World's Fairs and Centennial Exhibitions.
The government must of owned a fair number of 'stuffed' horses & mules and 'wax' soldiers for such occasions.
