Some times you find some things, when you are looking for something quite different.

At Cincinnati in 1888, the U.S. War Department had an extensive display at the Centennial Exposition of the Ohio Valley and Central States.

In the exhibition cataloge some trap-door Springfield accessories were illustrated & attributed to specific inventors.

I did not know that the 'broken-shell' device had a connection with Buffington or that the bore-mirror for the trap-door was called a "Russell Inspecting Glass".

I am skeptical of the "Kelton Cheek-Reign Attachment", that is illustrated. Different needs .... Different technology!

The catalogue included some sketches of 'accessories'.
