Here is an article from the 8/22/1891 "Scientific American" giving an update to the Board's testing to date. Some interesting points. Article starts on page 116.

Thanks Knute, 1891 was an interesting year for "Scientific American" articles.
It appears the Danish Krag really caught the attention of the U.S. Army - Ordnance Department, but,
there was the expectation that American manufacturers would come up with better bolt-action designs.

The Norwegian Krag improvements had not yet been submitted or evaluated. (That would happen in 1892).

The Government (.30-40) cartridge had pretty much been decided on, but, development would struggle with perfecting propellants and bullet/jacket design.

During 1891, "Scientific American" would feature articles on artillery developments, new ships, the 6.5 mm Italian rifle, and progress and preparations for Chicago's Columbian Exposition.
