Crimping

Post by Olpeddler »

I have been reloading for my model 1899 Krag carbine for 2 years. I mostly use Hornady 180 gr spitzer or RN interlock bullets, and Hornady 220 gr RN interlock bullets.
Todate, I have always crimped these reloads thinking the crimps will increase consistency in velocity as the bullets exits the barrel. However, I do not crimp when reloading for my 4 .30-06 bolt action rifles for which I neck size. So, the question is: will I lose some accuracy if I dis-continue crimping my .30-40 Krag reloads?

I don't think it necessary to 'crimp' .30-40 reloads. There is lots of sized case neck to firmly hold projectiles.

Eliminating 'crimping' will likely extend case life.

Crimping can actually hurt accuracy.
