Well here’s my US Krag 1898. Let me know what you think, good or bad. The bore is slightly frosted or might have pitting. I have shot it several years ago and I recall it cycled like it should. Metal has a dark patina, but some pictures make it look like bare metal.
Well, I have several pictures, and tried to upload and keep getting an error, file too large, so did some edits and still get the error. Any advice?

Every now and then we see Krags that someone has disassembled and blued. They may look pretty to the fellow that did the work, most of us do not think they look right. All the polishing takes off numbers and letters as well as thinning down the thin case hardening. The best I can tell yours has a well cared for original finish.
There is a list somewhere in the threads of each part and how it was originally finished. A few more photos from further away may help others comment on what you have. A few around here have bayonets.
This thread would be appropriate in the "US Military Krags" section, it makes it a little easier to search for stuff. Not sure if the admins can move it or not.

Sure is a lot to like about your Krag. How about pictures of the front sight and muzzle crown? Barrel bands? (Edit here, ask and you receive 2 minutes before you finish typing the question)
I have never touched or seen in person that rear sight, the numbers and lines are very crisp but there seems to be a texture on the surface. I do not know if that was an armory finish or pitting that later got polished out. The experts will know.

Question for experts, the front sight blade and crown, were they originally blued?
I have seen mention here of blackening the blade for a better sight picture. Is that because the original finish wore off or has new guy's blade been blued?

Fred C, here’s some better pics of the front sight blade. It is a bit darker then the barrel, but I don’t see evidence of where it was removed to blue it.

Do I spy an original 1898 rear sight on an early 1898? Awesome rifle!
