Whenever I set a 'live-trap', I have worried about this outcome!

I got plenty so I will pass.

On the bright side unless you have an over population, they are easy to let go. Most here are easy going and reluctant to throw a stink. Just move slow, prop the door open and then go away for a while. They will be reluctant to come out while you are there watching. That is my experience anyway.

This one may have a short fuse and spray you for looking at him cross eyed. :-)
I remember the time the irrigation installers found one in the suction line inside the reservoir. It had to come out or it would have fouled the booster pump. So they cut off the 8 inch suction pipe and he would not come out. The guys did not have time to wait and were afraid of it so I picked the pipe up and shook him out. He landed on the ground by my feet and looked around then ran off. No big deal.

I have had this happen. My neighbor showed me how to approach the trap by using a large sheet of cardboard in front. He said the skunk would not see a human or predator form approaching. He moved slowly and used a stick to open the trap. Pepe le pew was on his merry way soon after.
