Model 1898 Krag Rifle Documented in SRS Just Sold at Auction

I had a pretty nice bid on this Krag rifle, which I really didn't need, because it is in nice, honest, used condition rifle with a good bore but it was a hit in the SRS Records. This Krag, serial number 120186, is documented as having been issued in 1899 to the 3rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. There had been a low bid on this because the documentation was not in the item description and it's not in any kind of attention getting condition, just a well used Krag. But, someone present at the auction bid $20 over my absentee bid and got it. They probably knew the documentation also. I don't need another Krag but it's not every day you can find a documented one at a fair price with an overall good condition. I like Krags with good honest wear as well as nice condition ones. The history is on the first one's side!

Well, Ned, I've got over 50 Krags. I haven't had enough time to go to the range to blast away and enjoy them as much with three new grand kids and a lot of traveling. I've been collecting Marlin lever actions for a while and just picked up a couple CMP Garands at the Camp Perry CMP store last month. So, "don't need" has crept in, but ever so slightly!

Yeah. I was saying don't need for five hours on Saturday. Don't need another Krag, 1903, 1917, Garand, M14, 5.56, .30-40, .30-06. Did I leave anything out? Nope? Who knows what else.

However, 1895 Win Lees are not on the list.

I think this is at least the third documented rifle from the 3rd Tennessee that we have seen on the forum. I would be surprised that the stock would have been changed in 1902 while the correct 1896 rear sight and handguards were kept. But then by 1902 I suppose any serviceable parts arriving at Springfield might be simply left unchanged rather than using newer.
