Birthdate? ... I am old enough to have had a 'Bot' experience, back in the 1950's.
A neighborhood friend had one, with a tethered remote control.
You 'worked' a crank on the control cable and a scratchy record voice said:
"I'm Robert Robot the mechanical man. Drive me and steer me, wherever you can".
Communication was simpler back then!
