Waterman, you are right! However, no ammo manufacturer makes the .303 Savage ammo anymore. Back 40 years ago, Winchester would make a limited run of it every couple of years, but they stopped doing that in the late 1980's. In fact, that is why I got back into reloading about 25 years ago. .303 Savage had become an "orphaned cartridge" and If I wanted to keep shooting my heirloom rifle, I realized I would have 'roll my own".

They are vintage, but have you seen the Old Western Scrounger boxes & loads for .303 Savage?

And check out the estate sales, etc., of old guys or their grandfathers who hunted with .30-40 Krag rifles or carbines. The .303 Savage bullet filled up that long Krag throat and could be driven faster than a 220 grain soft point. Quite a popular reload in the 1930s.

Good Morning Shooters & Reloaders of .308, 180 gr. RN Jacketed Bullets. Three weeks ago I posted a request for help finding this bullet; thanks to all who responded! This morning I pulled up the Mid-South reloaders website and noted they had this bullet in stock, they were O/S at Mid-South a month ago. I ordered 2 boxes (100 each) of Hornady .308, 180 gr. RN Interlock Bullets. Total cost with shipping was $90. They perform well in my model 1999 Krag and my Savage Model 1999 chambered in .303 Savage.

Mistake, off by 100 years. Should be Model 1899 Krag and Model 1899 Savage in.303 Savage. Really awful, as I taught American History at the University level.

Great news to have gotten some bullets. I'd stock up for a few hundred more if you can. It isn't always easy to find. And it is nice to always have more components and supplies sitting on the shelf! Look for some 220 grain RNs bullets also. They shoot great out of the Krags.

Thanks Whig, great advice. Since acquiring my 1899 Krag carbine a few years ago, I have reloaded and fired off nearly 200 Hornady 220 gr RN rounds; I have 1 unopened box remaining. I have decided not to buy anymore reloading components until I can get a brick of Large Rifle primers and Large Pistol primers. My 80th birthday is coming up in 2 weeks. and I am in pretty good health with good eyesight. However, I have the awful thought that primers might not be readily available within next 4 -5 years, and by that time my shooting days at the range or hunting will be dwindling down to a precious few.

I have been "powder coating" my cast bullets for few years now. 2000 fps of NO leading. Don't need hard cast either. I am having good results with my powder coated 200 grain .312 dia cast with WC 872 mil surplus powder at 1950 fps. info on powder coating at "cast boolits" forum.
