If you want to register, I would suggest you do so soon so you can get the same relays as my group. You can register now and pay when you get there so if you wind up not going, you won't lose any money. Just go to the CMP site and click on Competition Tracker. Then you'll have to register with the CMP to get a competition number to compete. Then you can register for the National Matches. I can definitely help you with this. The matches we are registered for are:
Modern Military (with an AR) - Thursday, July 27th AM on Viale Range
Vintage Rifle (shooting my Krag) - Friday, July 28th AM on Viale Range
John C Garand Rifle - Saturday, July 29th AM on Viale Range
Springfield Rifle (1903/1903A3) - Sunday, July 30th AM on Viale Range

We always try to shoot on Viale because it's the better range!

If you do plan on coming, please send me a message and I'll give you some info on where we're staying, and where we'll meet up. We usually do everything together, including dinners! You don't have to stay where we do... just some suggestions is all.
Okay, I don’t know how I can say no…. I am in! Maybe I will have a Krag rifle completed by then too. The two rifles have been rebarreled, and hand guard and bluing remain. I also have several 1903 Springsfield rifles and a few M1 Garand rifles to pick from — may take the Garrand with the VAR barrel.

Here is a photo of the handguards — the two on the left are reproductions being inlet for the sight, the one on the far right is an original. The barrel clips are almost done and pretty much match the original as well — I am going to use brass rivets and brass black to color them.

Maybe. If I can get a krag and myself up to speed. I may have to get a carbine in the mix.

I'll give you a shout today.

Today I am loading up 40 cartridges using four different powders to see if I can tighten up the pattern. Er... I mean group. The 180 grain R-P factory didn't do any thing worth a hoot.

Results tomorrow.

I had moderate success this morning. I think I will go for a taller front site if I want to use this old girl for any matches.

The 35.5 grains of 4064 appears to be a good charge.

Forgot to add the aiming point is still way down south of six o'clock

If you were shooting from a bench, with sandbags or a rest, vertical stringing is a sign that a smidge more powder is needed. But this is an old Krag with issue sights viewed through elder eyes. Maybe just putting some black on the front sight will help. Maybe a wider front sight blade.
