"D" Day, today

During most of my life, I've known June 6th was a monumental day to be remembered. Radio and TV programming gave it serious recognition.

Nowadays, November 11th, December 7th, and June 6th, slip-by, largely without comment.

My family members and friends, who were involved in the naval operations, air assaults, beach landings, and fierce combat have all passed-on.
I cherish their sacrifice and having known them.
They knew they were fighting for 'Survival', (personal, country, and culture).

Nowadays, much of our citizenry is selfish & clueless and seems devoid of decisiveness and sacrifice.

How true. Much like those that fought to keep our nation free before them. Like Douglas MacArthur said "old soldiers never die, they just fade away"

Thanks for sharing. My great uncle Leonard died in France in 44 fighting for freedom.

My grandfather survived the war but never spoke of it. He’s gone now, but I can only imagine the travesty he witnessed.

Seems every generation is getting more and more soft. Either understanding nor appreciating the sacrifices many have made for the freedoms they take for granted.
