Altered Stock

Post by butlersrangers »

This stock (on eBay) will make some cringe, but, if you have a 'cut-down' model 1896 rifle it could make a nice period 'sporter'.

It needs some re-shaping of the pistol-grip and a Stain & Finish. The 'Schnabel' styling of the forearm appears well done.

Just a 'heads-up' if anyone has such a project.

My dad did something like that to his 1917 Enfield. He had a gunsmith friend in Prescott that probably did the metal work on it. My dad did have some wood working skills. So I think he did the stock modifications. With the 4 X scope it sure is fast on target when you need to get off a quick shot.

For someone needing a hunting sporter it will probably it would be a good deal if the price is reasonable.
