Me and the K31

In addition to the M1917 debacle I had the K31 along for the ride and as my sanity check to prove I know how to shoot just a little bit. Same bag as the 1917 and shooting at 100 yards. I see I need about two more left clicks on the diopter to really nail the X ring. I am kinda pleased with my broken down geezering self.

The fifty yard target shows both 1917 and the K31 first 5 shot groups. Guess which is which. Oh yeah. These were my hand loads and not GP11. (I'm saving the GP11 for special occasions.)

Nice Shootin' Tex!

K31's can be notoriously accurate with the right bullet/load combination... and especially with original Swiss issued GP-11 rounds! I reload my actual GP-11 brass using Tul-Ammo KV-762N Berdan primers, and Nosler Custom Competition 160 graiin HPBT .308 dia bullets (same bullet I use for my Garand) with 44.0 grains of 4895. Works great for me!

My load is from the holy book according to Saint Sierra. RUAG brass, CCI34 primers, 45.8 grains of IMR 4350, and 175 SMKs. They say it should mosey down the road doing 2400 fps. I've got no complaints.

Today's chapter of Culpeper and his pet K31 we meet up with our lad at the range. Let's listen in.

"$^&^*^%#$ $%%&&^ #$ ^^& W##%^^!"

Actually it seemed like that. I have to make a tag with the markings of the diopter in English. Moving on. Once I unscrewed myself (again) the hits started to move in the correct direction. However the big change today was I changed out the front sight insert out for a circle insert. The front was a post insert that came with the rifle. I tell ya' what. Even with my warn out eyes I was on the X ring once I got the elevation figured out.

A shout to Lee Shaver. https://stores.leeshavergunsmithing.com ... ert-cards/

The load was the same as last time, RUAG brass, CCI34 primers, 45.8 grains of IMR 4350, and 175 SMKs

Now I just have to find an original insert group for the Remington 41P.

My K31 is the most accurate milsurp that I have. It even shoots better than my unlimited class Garand that's Steel Bedded into a laminated stock.
