Culpeper,
You may have missed the part:
"They will be cheaper in the stores."

Remington probably has a high direct sales price to discourage the extra work that small direct sales entail.

Nope. Didn't miss it. They may show it at 3.75 a round but cheaper in stores will not mean fifteen bucks a box in the stores.

As an example. Remington 300 Blackout, 50 count At the Remington site, $1.80. Many other places depending on quantity, $1.35 to $1.60.

https://www.remington.com/rifle/umc-rifle/29-24026.html
https://ammoseek.com/rifle-ammo?ikw=UMC ... 20%20Grain

Or
Core-Lokt 30-06 Springfield 180 Grain Part # 27828
https://www.remington.com/rifle/core-lokt/29-27828.html Around $1.80
https://ammoseek.com/rifle-ammo?ikw=27828 Many, some fairly reasonable given the times, others not so much. $1.19 to $2.00

Cheaper, yes, but still on the steep side for anyone starting out. Of course this is just a snapshot in time. Even the less expensive places could raise prices at some point to prep for the next order to the wholesalers.

That is not the reality on the ground. I said the same thing in 1999/2000. The old dudes were spouting off about how they could pick up a ______________ (fill in the blank) their choice from a barrel of guns for twenty bucks back in the '50s and 60's. Then gasoline was 25 cents, the hourly wage was a couple of bucks, cars cost two thousand or so with a two or *gasp* three year loan. The coinage was still silver and prices were fairly stable. I will further add if they could get all of the guns at dirt cheap prices why didn't a one of the guys I spoke with have a hundred Krags or mausers or Lee enfields sitting in their back rooms.

Because they were busy living life, putting food on the table, raising kids, paying taxes, paying for cars, clothes, vacations and a hundred other things we pay for today. Nothing has changed. Only the reference point has moved. And the demand for cartridges from the surge of people wanting guns and the competition from the forever wars. Cartridges that could be made our type guns are secondary to the AR, the 7.62, pistol ammo, Ukraine, Israel, replenishing our war reserves.

No. You are in the right place, at the right time. You have been called to the Krag for a reason. It is up to you if you want to be a true disciple to the rifle.

You must be ready to jump when the krag ammo flood comes by being out of debt. Have a house payment? Stay at home and every nickel goes to a principle only payment on top of the mortgage. Car payment? Ditto. Credit cards, ugh! People throw away 20 dollars or more per hundred of carried balance per year.
Every dollar spent wrongly prevents you from having money set back for ammo, powder, brass, bullets. fifty or sixty bucks eating dinner out is wrongly spent.

I liken our present times to the 1930s. Every cent was precious then and it is the same now. I have more to say but this is already long.

Yes I have. Lol! I will eventually build up a supply of ammo for it. Might take me a bit, but I will do it. :)

I have tons of ammo for all of my milsurp weapons, except 30-40 Krag.

I swear I must have bought the last box of 50 Hornady 30-40 brass on the planet in March of '22. I have not seen any brass available anywhere since then. Fortunately the Hornady brass is excellent and wears like iron. That and the fact that I have no reason to load my Krag hot has been keeping them beautiful.

At a recent gun show I had the good fortune to buy an old but excellent box of 20 Remington 30-40 from the 50's I believe. It was the first factory loaded Remington 30-40 rounds I have seen for sale in years. I purchased them from a dealer who is an old friend. He had put them aside for me and charged $20 for the box. Very unlike the average profiteer.

As far as commercial loadings prehaps PPU could be convinced to tool up to make some 30-40 ammo. They seem to be attempting to corner the market in obsolete milsurp ammunition with what I have seen coming available from them lately. Their brass is strong and reloads well with what I have worked with from them in other calibers.

Yeah? What are they like? Is there a school I can go to learn how to be a profiteer? I am sitting on an ammunition mine. I'm hoping the shortage lasts another couple of years so I can sell for ten bucks a round and retire to Fiji. Let's see 2000 times 10 is a heap of moola. I'd be able to light cigars with dollar bills. Hell! I can start a bank. The Bank of Culpeper. The Culpeper Bank. The Culpeper Ammunition Fund and Loan Sharking Association. I would have a website called https://sellyourfamilytomedicalexperime ... orammo.com

Aside from my usual lunatic rantings what is the latest scouting report direct from Remington, Winchester, or Hornady? Some of you guys reported possible production starts about this time of year.

Just from reading above, Remington should be making some this month. I have not seen any though. I have alerts out from like 50 places that sell ammo. I'll report back here if I see any, after I buy as much as I can afford. Lol!

I have 1 box coming in from someone I know on the Colt forums. Should be here next week sometime.
