Krag sporter estamate

I'm appraising guns for a window lady. She has a 98 rifle cut down to a shorter. Typical garage job. Cut down rifle stock. Carbine rear sight put on backwards, no hand guards. Silver metal, some exterior rust. You know the drill. I knew what these were worth pre Covid ( PC ). My guess is they have not gone up much around $400? What say you?

"Carbine rear-sight" - Which one?
For Krag 'dabblers' the quality and condition of the 'remains' and how they can be used, governs value.

$400 or less is still relevant. It is still hard to get much money for a butchered Krag, but inexperienced 'newbies' still often overpay on impulse.

Kind of a case, where a 'part' is worth more than the whole!

The model 1896 carbine rear-sight (alone) is known to sell for $600 to $1,000.

More money would likely be realized by selling the rear-sight and the Krag separately.

More photos of the Krag may reveal more surprises.

A KCA member, in need of a model 1896 carbine rear-sight, may be a more generous 'buyer' than other methods of sale available to this widow.

Can you post photos of the entire rifle? Not sure i can make 1k or not but i hate to see a krag parted out.

That desirable carbine sight has no relevance (and little utility) on a cutdown model 1898 Krag 'Deer' rifle.

Removing an improperly installed carbine sight from a civilian altered rifle, and replacing it with a common Krag rifle sight, would hardly be an example of 'parting out'.
