Way back in 75'... we took a 2 week family trip to the UP (sadly, the only time I've actually ever been across the "Bridge" as it were). We spent a week of that in Copper Harbor at a cabin and touring the ghost towns and abandoned copper mines, and toured the still operating Delaware Mine (previously detailed in my story of my Copper Rock!). At the time, my mother was into collecting and polishing rocks, a skill she learned from her father. One of the best ways to determine what a stone or rock would look like polished was to "wet" it... and mom's solution was to literally "lick" the rock.

So... I can honestly say that I spent a week in Copper Harbor "Licking Rocks!"

I'm more of a 'pot licker' than a 'rock licker'.

Note - The rocks in the initial post are not found in the Lake Superior region.

Finding a Petosky stone in Copper Harbor... or anywhere in Lake Superior would be a tall order indeed! Most are found on the northwest coast of Lake Michigan... and I have found a few in my youth, although now-a-days, they are pretty slim pickings! I have one on my night table that is in the shape of the lower peninsula (no, it wasn't "found" that way, LOL).

That's pretty funky Photoshopping! Is he supposed to be holding the rock in his teeth? Also, looks like something other than rock, but I'll go no further . . .
