1899 Krag and young buck

Post by Mark_Daiute »

October 2022 I was given an 1899 barreled action. Charles McArthur repaired the original 1901 carbine site for me. I am grateful.

Yesterday I toock this buck with it. I got the stock with 1899 Catouche off of Ebay. The shot was about 70 yards. The buck went down and never moved.

And the answer to the question everyone wants to know is onions and carrots or sauted mushrooms?

So what load did you use Mark, your own recipe or factory?

I'm going to have to build me a "straight wall cartridge" Krag someday. I often think about it, but likely will never get around to it. Good job Mark!

I've seen a dandy rebuilt to .405 WCF, but it took a major rework of the magazine. If you shorten the .405 WCF case, it should work. Aren't there case length restrictions with the "straight wall cartridge" requirements?
