I'm surprised one of us hasn't hit the "buy it now" button. If I lived within a day's drive, if the weather was decent, and if I wasn't 84, I'd be after that one like real butter on a hot pancake.

Golly!!! From the content of the responses, I take it that this particular rifle is not "genuine?" Sincerely. bruce.

That wasn't my impression after reading the replies. Even if it's a school rifle, it looks like a dandy and the price is very reasonable.

I don't want to be snarky.
Just the blemishes shown in this photo, that make this fake 'Constabulary/ School' rifle obvious, are an invaluable 'learning example'.
(The front-sight base is not attached correctly. The sight blade and pin are replicas. The 'step' at the muzzle, to accept a bayonet, is not long enough).

For Krag novices, this kind of stuff is why we are snickering.

The serial number (320256) guarantees that this Krag is a cut-down model 1898 Krag rifle, assembled around April 1901.
Mr. S.W. Porter died in June of 1894. His cartouche is faked on this stock.
"SWP" is only found on some early model 1892 Krag rifle stocks.

Philippine Constabulary and School Rifles were made from restocked and altered model 1899 & 1898 carbines. There is not a carbine part in the pictures except the front-sight cover. The rear-sight is a model 1901 rifle sight.

I've chatted with the guy via email. Seems decent.

It's a consignment item - he knows nothing about Krags.

Gun's phony from the git-go. Numerous issues. The carbine sight cover is the best part of it.
